PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN IN THE MONTH (BRIEF DESCRIPTION)

Ø  On 10th October – 2012 :  A trip of 109  students  and teachers of KDN Shruti School, (A school for the impaired children  run by  Rotary Club of Bombay West)  had gone to Lonavala  at Saibabadham   where we had constructed a Community Hall two years back. Our Rtn. Apurva Nanavati and Rtn. Arjun Hardasani  sponsored  this  grand  picnic  for the first time for the  students and teachers of  KDN Shruti School.

Ø  On 10th October :   Presented Vocational Excellence Award to Ms. Swati Cahuhan. She is selected  by our Club  and District for  Long Term Peace Scholar.  She had given a lecture on “Human Trafficking”  on the occasion. She is presently  working as a judge at Family Court at Bandra. 

Ø  On 10th October : Launched  Arogyam Card at our Medical Centre at the cost of Rs. 500/-.   The card will be valid for one year for   a family member  of four.  The patients  will  be entitled   for a discount of 20%  on the services given  by the Medical Centre. 


Ø  Visited  V.N. Desai Hospital, Santacruz (East) to  view the progress of our project – providing nutritional snacks to the HIV affected  pregnant ladies and  guidance to the HIV/AIDS patients  by one of our Rtn. Dr. Pratima Kodkani.

Ø  On   21st October  :  Felicitated  the Master of Melody Padma Vibhushan Pandit  Hariprasad Chaurasia, the internationally renowned exponent  of Bansuri, by giving “Living Legends of India Achievement Award”  at Jamnabai  Narsee School Auditorium, Vile  Parle.  DG Rtn. Dr. Bal Inamdar  was the Chief Guest. More than 400 members including  District Dignitaries graced the occasion with their  presence.  

Ø  26th October :  SOPAN (Society of Parents  of children with Autistic Disorders)  in association with other NGOs had organized an exhibition  at Rotary Service Centre.  Almost 14 NGOs  put their stalls for selling their products.  We have donated one ipad and 5 mobiles phones to them.

Ø  On 30th October :  A group of Rotarians from our club visited Palghar where our Club have constructed 4 Check dams   for the  benefit of the Adivasis to view the progress and their utilization and also distributed 12  Computers to the Adivasi Schools in and around village Savare, Palghar.



Vocational :

Ø  Under Vocational Loan Scholarship Project ,  Rs. 7,59,000/- were disbursed to   32 students till the end of October.

Ø  3rd Sept. :  Installation of Interact Club of Apostilic Carmel School  was held at school premises.

PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN IN THE MONTH (BRIEF DESCRIPTION)

Ø  7th September : Teachers day was celebrated at Rotary Service Centre  from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon at Sheila Raheja Hall. Teachers of  Tata Compound Municipal School, Gazdhar Bandh School and  Juhu Tara Municipal School were felicitated alongwith the prize  winning students  of drawing  competition. The teachers of Bhavisya Yaan   were also joined along with  the  selected children of cultural programme.  Recognition  and  gifts were given  to the teachers  and children.

Ø  Udaan-2012 , the Interact District Conference was held on 14th September  at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle (West) where 1100  Interactors participated.  DG Dr. Bal Inamdar was the Guest of this function and our club was one of the co-host club  of this conference.  Interactors from KDN Shruti School and  Podar School  participated  in this programme.

Ø  28th September :  Our  Club alongwith  KDN Shruti School (The Hearing  Impaired School run by Rotary Club of Bombay West)  had organized a  speech competition  for the hearing impaired students of  12 schools  including KDN Shruti  School. 42 students  participated in this competition and all the participants were  given  certificates.  Prizes were  also distributed to the winners.  DG Dr. Bal Inamdar  was the Chief Guest  and  Rtn. Narendra Parekh – Jt.  Managing Director of Pidilite Industries Ltd.,  was   the Guest of Honour.

Ø  World Elder’s  Day  was celebrated  at our Club  in association with Rotary Club of  Mumbai North Island, Bombay Midtown, Mumbai Mahim, Mumbai North End and Inner wheel Club of Bombay West.  DGE Rtn. Lata Subraidu was the Chief Guest  and renowned  Builder Shri Jagdish Prasad Gupta was the Guest of Honour.   30 Senior Citizens were felicitated. Nearly 325 Senior Citizens  attended  the function. This was followed by  a nice musical programme.

Vocational :
Ø  Under Vocational Loan Scholarship Project ,  Rs. 7,14.000/- were disbursed to   30 students till the end of September.
Hosting of District Events:

Ø  On  Sunday, 12th August :  Rotary Club of Mumbai Khar hosted a  Membership Intercity forum at Rotary Service Centre  from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.  DG Rtn. Dr. Bal Inamdar was the Chief Guest  and he  provided   tips to the  Rotarians to  help strengthen  their club  with new members.

PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN IN THE MONTH (BRIEF DESCRIPTION)

Ø  Organised  a Dental Check up Camp  on 9th & 10th August from  8.30 am to 1.00 pm  for the students of Hussain Allana  English School at Adarsh Nagar, Lokhandwala Complex  for 419 students.  These students were examined by a  team of surgeons  from BSES Hospital, Andheri (West) and Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital. Rotarians, Rotaractors and Inner Wheel members participated in this camp.
Ø  On 14th August : Celebrated  Independence day  at  Juhu Tara Municipal School  with variety  of entertainment programmes.
Ø  On 15th August :  Celebrated Independence Day  at KDN Shruti School  Flag Hoisiting.
Ø  A cultural programme of Bhavishya Yaan  students was organized  at Vile Parle Municipal School on 24th  August.  The award winning students alongwith  their teachers has been invited to our club on   7th September – Teacher’s day celebration  and they will be honoured with other school teachers by us. 
Ø  On 31st August :  A blood donation drive  was organized   at Rotary DG Goenka Blood Bank for  donors  from the  staff members of the office of  one of our Rtn.  Sandip Parekh, who himself is a  frequent  donor
Vocational :

Ø  Under Vocational Loan Scholarship Project ,  Rs. 4,74,000/- were disbursed to   20 students.

International:

Ø  On 11th August , a team of 28  Rotarians  had gone to Phuket, Bangkok  for the Stag Picnic for 4 days.  All the members  contributed  for the funds collected for Polio for Rotary Club of Phuket.

President's Report - July, 2012

Joint Meeting :

Ø  On 11th July, 2012  :  Our Club  has arranged a joint meeting  with Rotary Club of Bombay Film City.  The Guest speaker was Mr. Nitin Ghadiyar on Subject Politics  & Destruction of Indian Economy.

Seminar : 

Ø  On 21st July  :  A talk on “Healing with Energy Medicine” was organized  at Rotary Service Centre by an eminent Dr. B.K. Chandrashekhar.  More than 80 members including Rotarians took the benefit of the seminar.

PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN IN THE MONTH (BRIEF DESCRIPTION)

Ø  On 3rd August  : This year  10000 Note books of 200 pages each has been donated by one of our Rtn. Harish Ruia. Out of which 6000 Note books   were distributed to the  adivasi students  in backward  areas of Palghar  Taluka and the balance 4000 Note books  were distributed to Holy Mother School at Malvani, Malad West & Anjuman Shaan-e-Millat School, Malad East

Ø  8th July  :  Interview  of Peace Scholars was held  at Board Room of Rotary Service Centre. It was attended by  PDG Rahul Timbadia, DGE   Lata Subraidu and DGN  Ajay Gupta  apart from our own Rtn.  PP Rajendra Ruia, Rtn. Gautam Chande, Rtn. Hima Dalal  & Smriti from District. 4 candidates  were interviewed,  2 were recommended by our Club.

Ø  13th July  :  Our Club with Inner Wheel Club  organized  a  Blood Donation Drive  at BSES  Hospital Andheri.

Ø  15th July  :  Another mega Blood Donation Camp was organized  at Andheri Sports Complex in which  12 Blood Banks  from across the city participated,  Rotary DG Goenka Blood Bank  being one of them. Hon’ble Shri Suresh Shetty, Health Minister, Government of Maharashtra  inaugurated the camp and visited our Blood collection counter. 

Ø  15th July  :  Our Club promoted Technotholon, a joint project  with IIT, Guwahati, where the students came  from IIT  and conducted  exams for   school students of class 9, 10, 11 & 12th at   5 centres.  Around 1200 students participated.  The answer sheets are taken to IIT, Guwahati.  The results would be declared in  middle of September.  The winners would be given awards and  the  50  best students from India  (More than 2,50,000 students participated)  would be taken   to the IIT, Guwahati, trained for a  week and would participate  in various activities.  Top three  would be interviewed  by professors, which would be telecast.  In case our  students win during telecast, our name  would be mentioned.
Vocational :

Under Vocational Loan Scholarship Project , 15 students were interviewed and Rs. 3,25,000/-  were sanctioned.
